Filed under: Before the bell, Major movement, International markets, Indices, ColumnsWas yesterday's decline in the market really a correction? Correction is a vague term that market pundits and the media throw out when they aren't quite sure what's going on. Yesterday was no exception.Part of the problem is that people define a market correction like art. They know it when they see but they just can't really explain what makes one decline a correction and another a down day.My old employers at Bloomberg News define a correction as "reverse movement, usually downward, in the price of an individual stock, bond, commodity or index. Filed under: After the bell, Chicago Merc Exch Hld'A' (CME), Watson Pharmaceuticals (WPI), OptionsThe U.S. markets bounced back after yesterday's sell-off following the Chinese example. Indexes were mildly up across the board. Fourth quarter GDP was revised down from 3.5% to 2.2%. January new home sales also fell 143,000, or about 15%. I had the feeling that investors paid little attention to the economic data and were more just glued to their screens watching the market action. Filed under: Newspapers, Internet, Blogs, Cisco Systems (CSCO), Columns, Books, Bargain stocksI have been following Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CSCO) since it went public in the early 1990's. The one adjective that I never thought would apply to Cisco Systems is -- it's a bargain. The growth machine that Cisco was in the 1990's, early 2000's, of course hit the wall and with that wall came a crashing stock price. That was then, this is now.Cisco systems is so dominant in the world of networking systems and communications that growth from the customer base came into question these past few years. Cisco has been the ultimate in re-defining the research and development (R&D) model in technology. Cisco is the master of development and the biggest acquirer of the ...

Pee-Wee's solution: Find a mouse in a Coke bottle. With help from his pals, he dumps bottle after bottle of Coke into a basin until they find that elusive mouse. Especially considering that in this day and age, in this fair country, Montana resident Bob Craft ...

Filed under: Deals, Products and services, Lockheed Martin (LMT)Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) announced several pieces of new business last week. They began delivery of the U.S. military's new Lightweight Prime Mover vehicle. They won a contract to provide live and virtual training to the Kuwaiti National Guard. And the FAA invited them to propose solutions for development of a new system that would allow the nation's air system to navigate and coordinate via GPS data instead of radar. The company hopes to receive an order for 160 more of the ...
William Trent submits: For some reason, the latest fashion appears to be issuing convertible notes. The practice allows companies to reduce the apparent share count, but assuming the share price rises (which stockholders are presumably rooting for) the shares will just come right back. We’ve seen this with Ceradyne (CRDN) and Finisar (FNSR),
