ContentDesk) September 25, 2005 — The National Occupational Dog Bite Safety (ODBS) Summit will be held November 9-10 in Las Vegas, Nevada.All service companies that have personnel who visit homeowners and commercial businesses have the risk of exposing these employees to vicious dogs as they enter the property. Injury from dog bites can be fatal or at least very hazardous to their health and well being.

TV service people, and law enforcement officers, are being subjected to the high risk of a dog bite attack. Personnel injury and lost time incidents have become a serious safety issue for employers.Dog bites account for one-third of homeowners insurance claims nationally, according to the Insurance Information Institute, a trade organization. It has been estimated that the industry paid out $310 million in dog bite liability claims in 2001, compared to $250 million in 1996.

Summit November 9-10 in Las Vegas, Nevada, is to train corporate safety leaders of participating companies to become each company’s local expert for establishing and management of on-going occupational dog bite safety programs. They will gain an understanding of pre-attack avoidance techniques, post-bite issues as a result of incident-induced trauma, and create their own ODBS safety plan. To achieve these goals, a panel of experts will provide training at the National ODBS Summit.
