Black History Month by honoring California’s African American Living History Makers in presenting a tribute to those ‘unsung’ heroes for their outstanding accomplishments and/or contributions to the community. They are nominated by individuals and organizations and honored at the Living History Makers Awards Reception on the last Thursday in February. This affair is attended by corporate and business executives, community leaders, elected officials, opinion leaders and decision makers that directly influence California’s African American community.

Living History Makers Award Reception committee chooses an honoree in each of following categories: Advocacy, Arts & Entertainment, Education, Science & Technology, and new to this year’s reception Emerging Living History Maker, honoring individuals up to the age of 21 who have shown an unusual commitment to their community or have demonstrated extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit.

Myia Jones / MYIA, Inc. (Multicultural Youth-In-Action):Founded by then 10-year-old Myia Jones, MYIA, Inc. is a non-profit community organization formed to develop community service activities that encourage young people to become intimately involved with positive societal events from which participants may learn leadership and citizenship life skills. The organization’s 14-year-old visionary and president is a capable and joyful leader of girls in her capacity as ambassador for the Womens Sports Foundation’s GoGirlGo! national outreach campaign.
